Moira Place

A New Tradition

A sense of place, companionship, comfort, security and belonging... that's what sets Moira Place apart. In contrast to the "institutional" feel typical of Long Term Care homes, Moira Place provides a lovely, home-like environment. We understand the importance of family, connections with the community and personalized services.

Located in the friendly Municipality of Tweed, just minutes north of Belleville, our caring and highly skilled staff promotes family and community involvement to enrich the lives of our residents.

Feel the Difference

The difference is in the attention to details. While designed to meet and exceed the highest standards, what sets Moira Place apart from most other long term care alternatives is that it was specifically designed to provide a comfortable, home-like environment. There are plenty of cozy places to visit with family and friends. There are lots of open areas for groups to congregate and enjoy each other's company. The windows are large, bringing in lots of natural light. The halls and lounge areas are tastefully carpeted, with wood trim throughout. The decorations and furnishings are comfortable and attractive, with an inviting feel.

Uncommon "Common" Areas

Our many lounge and "common" areas are filled with warm, ambient light and were designed and decorated to enhance the quality of life of our residents. There are plenty of welcoming places to sit and chat with family and friends - or to simply enjoy some quiet time.

Our spacious Fireside Lounge is a perfect place for community events, card tournaments, bingo games, or gathering to listen to a visiting children's choir. With a lovely, oak-beamed sloped ceiling, its many large windows overlook the courtyard patio café, which is frequently used for outdoor dining or special events.

To promote a home-like atmosphere, Moira Place is comprised of four unique home-areas called "houses" to meet the diverse needs of our residents. Each house has a unique local theme with separate dining rooms, lounges and meeting areas to ensure a comfortable, warm environment. The dining rooms in each "house" are filled with abundant aromas and overlook attractive courtyard gardens, the ideal setting for gardening activities or a peaceful stroll. Our non-denominational chapel is tastefully appointed with stained glass and an arched ceiling; the perfect place for spiritual services or quiet reflection.

We Value Privacy

Since we all value privacy and independence, Moira Place was designed with plenty of spacious private resident rooms with en-suite washrooms and oversized windows. Semi-private and shared accommodations are also available (for two persons), the perfect alternative for couples. Each resident room is tastefully decorated and comes with a bed, bedside table, wardrobe and chair. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and decorations to make their accommodation as home-like as desired. Towels and linens are provided. All rooms are wheelchair accessible and have outlets for cable TV and telephone.

Peace of Mind

Understanding the importance of a clean, safe, and secure environment, Moira Place was designed to give you and your family complete peace of mind. Constructed to AON's high standards, with experience and a reputation gained over 50 years, Moira Place has a state-of-the-art fire detection and sprinkler system, as well as a back-up emergency generator. Monitored access ensures privacy. In addition, each resident room has an emergency call system with nursing stations located right in each home-area, so that help is right around the corner if you need it.

Who is Eligible?

Anyone who has been approved for long-term care by their local Home & Community Care Support Services (HCCSS) is eligible to become a resident of Moira Place. HCCSS requirements include eligibility for OHIP and a referral by a physician. The costs a resident pays for long term care are set by the provincial government as determined by the Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC).
